Building Diagnostic Inspection and Design (BDID Pty Ltd) is owned and operated by Karl Van Der Horst, a fully qualified and accredited inspection consultant with many years experience in the South Australian housing industry.

Karl has been inspecting homes and buildings since 1988 and started his own business, Building Diagnostic Inspection and Design in 1991. The company was incorporated as BDID Pty Ltd in 1999.

BDID specialises in residential property inspection but also offers inspection services for small commercial buildings up to 500 square metres.

Karl studied architecture for four years, holds a Builders Certificate and has worked in the construction industry. He also holds the Certificate in Local Government Inspection and is accredited as a Building Surveying Technician administered by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors which requires continual professional development.

Karl believes in maintaining and improving standards of construction in the residential building industry. He also believes in educating and informing people about home maintenance and says that an ounce of prevention of problems now is better than a pound of cure spent fixing them later.

Karl Van Der Horst is qualified to act as expert witnesses with respect to domestic construction issues but believes that a detailed and objective report usually leads to disagreements being settled out of court.

Karl is a member of many professional associations because he likes to maintain professional expertise. He always attempts to achieve the highest possible standards in his own work.
